VSP Investigating Fatal Halifax County Crash

HALIFAX – Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Halifax County. The crash occurred Aug. 23, 2023, at 9:55 a.m. on Route 603, approximately one mile north of Route 642. 

A 1999 Dodge Dakota was traveling north on Route 603 when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole. The vehicle then crossed back over Route 603, ran off the left side and struck several trees. 

The driver, Jerry L. Womack, 57, of Nathalie, Va., died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
