Utility Poles Take a Hit in Charlotte Co. : Pick-Up Strikes Utility Pole in Keysville; Mercedes-Benz Strikes Pole in Drakes

On Thursday, August 7, Appomattox River in Keysville, Va. was out of electricity for a while due to an accident that occurred on George Washington Hwy., right in front of the facility.

image copy 2At around 7:15 a.m., Curtis Simmons, 48, of Lynchburg was traveling in a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck when he reportedly reached down to pick up something from the floorboard of the vehicle and jerked right, hitting a utility pole.

According to State Police, the vehicle sustained about $8,000 in damage and Simmons  walked away with only minor injuries.  Simmons was charged with failure to maintain control of the vehicle. Trooper D.A. Thompson was the investigating officer in this incident.

DrakesBranchWreckIn a separate incident that occurred on Saturday afternoon, the female driver of a Mercedes-Benz CLK was traveling south on Drakes Main St. when she lost control and struck a pole owned by Verizon in front of St. Michael Baptist Church.

The driver was not injured. Trooper J.V. Bavely was the investigating officer in this incident.
