Thompson Insurance Agency Celebrating 100 Years

KEYSVILLE – Thompson Insurance Agency Inc., located at 114 King Street in Keysville, is celebrating its 100^th anniversary and Merrianne Thompson Dixon and Peggy M. Agee, owners, would like to say a special thank you to their loyal customers and invite them to stop by the office on August 19, from 9 a.m.–5 p.m., for refreshments and to say hello. The duo also welcomes you to enter your name into a drawing for a chance to win a prize as they celebrate 100 years of serving the community as an independent insurance agency, whose motto is “Serves You First.”

Thompson Insurance Agency Inc. was started by Luetta J. Thompson, Merianne’s grandmother, in 1922 – who was a trendsetter back then with the first business working out of her home, as many are doing now since COVID-19.  She later moved her office downtown to 114 King Street as an Independent Insurance Agency.

In 1952, her son, Alvis W. Thompson, Merianne’s father, came back to Keysville to work at Thompson Insurance.  Prior to moving back home, Alvis served in the Army during WWII and worked in the insurance industry in both New York and Washington, D.C.  The mother/son duo worked side by side for several years. They sold crop insurance to many tobacco farmers in their day, and there are a few of their items that remain today inside the office.  

In 1981, Peggy W. Agee joined the office as a licensed agent and has worked in the office ever since.  She has been a loyal employee and part-owner of Thompson Insurance Agency, Inc. 

In 1987, Merrianne Thompson Dixon joined her father and Peggy in the agency as a licensed agent.  The three of them worked together for many years before Mr. Thompson’s death in August 1995. 

Today, Peggy and Merianne continue working together at the agency, which is still located at 114 King Street in Keysville. “Things have changed in our town over the years, said Dixon, “but our slogan ‘Serves You First’ remains.”  

“We would like to say a special thank you to our loyal customers, without you Thompson Insurance Agency would not be celebrating its 100^th year,” said Dixon and Agee.
