That Talk With My Children – I Must Be Black

Written by on February 23, 2023 at 12:03 pm

According to President Joe Biden I am Black. It seems like something I should have already known. I was surprised to say the least. Apparently both of my parents were White according to Biden’s definition. I don’t know about my siblings, I will have to talk with them to find out. That also seems like something I should have already known.

Biden said in a speech that “Black parents, unlike White parents, have to have ‘THE TALK’ with their children about how to behave and act when dealing with the police.”  He said he never had to have “THE POLICE TALK” with his children because they are White.

“THE POLICE TALK” consists of telling your children to be respectful to the Police. It includes keeping your hands in sight, preferably on the steering wheel in plain sight.

So, apparently I am Black because I had “THE POLICE TALK” with my children and White folks don’t do that. Now, in my world, I believe some parents have “THE POLICE TALK” with their children and some don’t, regardless of their race.

My parents didn’t have that talk with us simply because they tried to teach us to be respectful to everyone. In rural Southside, Virginia if I had mouthed off at an officer he would probably have called my dad to let him know.

To be frank, I had “THE POLICE TALK” with my children out of respect for the police, who have a difficult job I don’t want to be made more difficult. AND because it is always a bad idea to upset anyone who has a gun. I didn’t know that made me Black.

Regarding Joe Biden NOT having “THE POLICE TALK” with his children: his children didn’t need it.  BUT they didn’t need it because they are White; they didn’t need it because their father was rich, famous and powerful. THEY would have been handled with kid gloves. I can guarantee they knew how to say, “Do you know who my father is?”

Biden’s son Hunter is still using “Do you know who my father is?” on a regular basis. In fact, that is his only job.

The State of My Union Message

Our President just gave the State of the Union address. I didn’t watch it; I waited until it was online and read it. I always do this because it removes the distractors both positive and negative.

Our president gave examples of lots of good things that have happened this year.  Well, that is, they are good and would be good if you ignore the whole truth.

“Inflation is down,” he said.  Well, that is true if you only count 2022.  Inflation is down compared to the end of 2021. However, if you count back to when he took office, inflation is still higher than it was.

“Deficit spending is down.” Also true. You just need to ignore the trillions of dollars increases in Covid spending in 2021.

“Gas prices are down.” They certainly are down compared to December 2021.  I am only paying a dollar or so more per gallon than I was in 2021 when I was paying two dollars more.

What would be the results if in each case the numbers were based on when Biden took office?

The facts are that all of us average working class Americans have taken a financial hit in the past two years compliments of OUR government. Remember, we elected these folks to represent us and they aren’t.

This is my personal State Of MY Union Address:

My marriage is great. My Grand-brats are great. My Children are all working and healthy and are good parents and productive citizens. I have new Grand-brats on the way.  All that is great.

All of my extended family is doing well. There are some issues but they are all handling things with grace and good attitudes.

In general, my bride and I are enjoying good health with only a few minor health issues. At my age a few health issues are to be expected.

None of my close friends died this year.

I have completed some projects that have been languishing around our place for about 10 years or so.

All in all, those things are good and in many cases better than last year.

On a financial basis my social security has or will increase by 8.7 percent this year. That is great. If I can get a part-time job it will almost cover the cost of the new medications I was prescribed this year. If I decide to skip the medications I may die, which would lower my expenses drastically.  If I remain alive without the meds that increase will cover my increased gas costs or my increased heating costs but not both. On the other hand, I can skip gas, oil, medication and pay for our increase on our grocery bill.  I just need to prioritize my expenditures.

To be fair, my Social Security isn’t as much as it could have been if I hadn’t made some poor choices in the past. That is all my fault.

However, I had nothing to do with inflation.  Inflation is always caused by POOR GOVERNMENT.

The State of my Union is good overall. The State of the American people isn’t.
