R-HHS Lady Statesmen Softball Off to 4-1 Start

CHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE – The Lady Statesmen opened the 2023 season at home against Mecklenburg High School on March 14. RH jumped out to an early 8-0 lead and held on for an 8-6 win. Danner Allen went all seven innings on the mound giving up nine hits and striking out 17. Lacey Steppe led the way at the plate with three hits while Abigail Dixon and Ashley  Nelson had two hits each with Dixon having two RBI’s. 

RH traveled to Mecklenburg on the 16th and came home with a 2-9 loss to the Phoenix. Sydney Hamlett and Abigail Dixon threw three innings each giving up eight hits and striking out two. Dixon once again was the leader at the plate going 4 for 4 with two RBI’s. RH struggled in the field making six errors on the night. 

RH got back on track when they hosted Chatham, getting a 2-0 victory. It didn’t come easy as the game was scoreless going into the bottom of the sixth. RH scored both runs in the inning on three hits. Danner Allen threw her first no hitter of the year while striking out 20. RH was led at the plate by Allen, Ashley Nelson, Lacey Steppe and Alyssa Townsend. 

RH hosted Jefferson Forest on the 23rd and pulled away early for a 10-0 win. Summer Jones had a big night at the plate going 3 for 3 with a homerun and five RBI’s. Danner Allen had two hits on the night while Ashley Nelson, Alex Clark, Addie Duffer and Alyssa Townsend had one  

hit each. Allen picked up her third win of the year on the mound giving up three hits and striking out 10. 

The Lady Statesmen got a little payback from last year against Rustburg as they won 7-2. Danner Allen started the bottom of the first with a solo homerun and another solo homerun in the third. RH would score five more times on hits by Summer Jones, Lacey Steppe, Ashley Nelson and Misha Clark. 

Through five games this year RH is led at the plate by Danner Allen and Abigail Dixon with seven and six hits. Summer Jones has four extra base hits and eight RBI’s. Ashley Nelson has scored six runs. Allen is 4-0 with 62 strikeouts.
