Ponderings

Written by on June 14, 2023 at 1:20 pm

Listen up, everyone, this reporter has something for you to think about!  Right here in our own country, we senior citizens are being attacked.  We must get together and come up with an answer to stop these attacks immediately!

For one thing, have you noticed that the stairs are getting steeper? Getting out of breath before reaching the halfway point and realizing that the groceries I’m holding are getting heavier is a weekly thing. Why, this reporter could hardly pull the bags out of the car on Friday.

Yes, and everything is getting farther away.  Have you noticed? Just yesterday I walked to the corner of the street in this small town and was dumbfounded to discover how long the street has become.

And, you know, people are less considerate now, especially the young ones. They speak in whispers all the time! If you ask them to speak up, they just keep repeating themselves, endlessly mouthing the same silent message until they are red in the face.  What do they think I am, a lip reader?

I also think these young folks are much younger than I was at the same age.  On the other hand, people my own age are so much older than I am. Recently, I ran into an old friend and she had aged so much that she didn’t even recognize me!  I was thinking about that friend today as I was combing my hair. Well, I glanced at my own reflection and realized that even mirrors aren’t made the way they used to be!

Another thing, everyone drives so fast these days!  You are risking life and limb if you happen to pull onto a four-lane in front of them.  All I can say about that is their brakes must wear out awfully fast, the way I hear them screech and see them swerve in my rear-view mirror.

From these ponderings, this reporter will pass along a little advice. God gave you toes as a device for finding furniture in the dark.  Now, don’t you agree?

Since Father’s Day is coming up on Sunday, June 18, I’m reminded of some of dad’s favorite sayings: When I was your age; a little bit of dirt never hurt anyone; go ask your mother; were you raised in a barn? you don’t know what hard work is; don’t make me stop this car; money doesn’t grow on trees, or because I said so! Have my readers heard any of these?

Remember, one of the greatest things a father can do is to love their mother.  Being a father is like shaving.  No matter how good you shaved today, you have to do it again tomorrow.

A dad is a son’s first hero and a daughter’s first love.  Dads hold our hands for a little while and hold our hearts forever.  Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!
