Old Dump Sites Close as Gary Road Location Opens in April

LUNENBURG – Lunenburg officials have continued work over several years to find new strategic solid waste convenience sites in the county. After Container First Services took over the landfill in Lunenburg several years ago, Board of Supervisors members began looking at locations to put these convenience sites that have fencing around them, and offer a nice place for the trash to be disposed of by county residents.

They have tried to find strategic locations around different areas in the county so that residents will have them within a reasonable driving distance. This process also includes removing some of the old open container locations. The supervisors recently announced that the waste receptacles at the dumpsites located on New Grove Road, Plank Road, Bagley’s Mill Road, and the site at the intersection of Oral Oaks and Plank Road will be removed and these four sites will be closed permanently during the last week of April 27-30.  The new Gary Road Convenience Center located at 1800 Gary Road will open on Monday, April 27, 2020 for residents to use for disposal of household trash.
