The Town of Farmville has a new attorney. Gary Elder of Charlotte Court House was chosen last month to fill the position left open by Richmond attorney Andrea Erard.

gary elderElder, who also has an office in Farmville, said he is excited about working with the town.

“Farmville is growing and growing and it is an exciting time and it is exciting for me to be a part of it,” he said.

In addition to representing the Town of Farmville, Elder also serves as the town attorney for both Drakes Branch and Charlotte Court House. “There are a lot of different issues and multiplicities to deal with and this type of law is very interesting.”

Elder, who has been practicing law since 2007, is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and Sanford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

When he first started practicing Elder worked for a large law office in Washington D.C. But he always knew he wanted to return to his roots in Southside Virginia. “There is a big difference in a small town practice and a big urban practice,” he added. “Here I have the opportunity to meet and talk with clients one on one and you feel like you can actually help people and do some good.”

In 2011 Elder returned to Virginia and began to practice with a law firm in Charlotte County.

In addition to working with three towns, Elder also serves clients with real estate transactions and estate planning, as well as civil litigation and criminal defense.
