Messages at Christmas

Written by on December 15, 2021 at 2:19 pm

Do your children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren ever ask you, “What do you want for Christmas?”  After thinking about that question, I decided to give them my real answer.

I want you to keep coming around.  The house is so quiet.

I want you to ask me questions or ask for my advice.

Tell me your problems.  I might be able to help you solve them.

Ask for my opinion and ask for my help.  I’ve been there and might know some answers.

I want you to come over and rant about your problems, rant about life or family matters.

Whatever….

Tell me about your job, your worries, or your classes.  Dealing with the public is no picnic.

I want you to continue sharing your life with me.

Come over and laugh with me or laugh at me!

I really don’t care.  Hearing your laughter is music to my ears!

I want you to spend your money making a better life for you.  I already have the things I need.  I want to see you happy and healthy.

When you ask me what I want for Christmas, I say “Nothing” because you’ve already been giving me my gift all year. I WANT YOU!

ANOTHER MESSAGE:

AND, one day you realize that it wasn’t the game, it was who you watched it with.

It wasn’t about the house you owned. It was the people in it.

It wasn’t about the best coffee ever but who you made it for.

It wasn’t all the work you put in, but who was in the trenches with you.

It wasn’t the great dinner prepared for you.  It was who brought you your plate.

You have to learn how to value the time that someone gives you because that’s something they will never get back.  It’s priceless.

When you’re at the end of your years, what’s really going to matter?  Enjoy your moments now because one day it will be too late to soak it in!

Most importantly, this reporter is thinking of so many friends and family, especially during the Christmas season.  The following poem says it all and was posted on Facebook this past week:

If Christmas is hard, if you’ve lost someone dear.

Just look in your heart, and you’ll know they’re still there.

The stars in the sky, the light falling snow.

The birds outside, they seem like they know.

If this is a time when you’re struggling through,

Just do what you can, for what matters, is you.

There’s no need to be merry, there’s no need to be bright.

Just do what you can.  It will be all right!

Last message, but not least:

When a flashlight grows dim or quits working, do you just throw it away? Of course not! You change the batteries.

When a person messes up or finds themselves in a dark place, do you cast them aside?  Of course not! You help them change their batteries.  Some need AA…attention and affection; some need AAA…attention, affection and acceptance; some need C…compassion; some need D…direction.  And if they still don’t seem to shine, simply sit with them quietly and share your light.

This reporter sends her love, sympathy, compassion and friendship to all those who have lost loved ones during 2021.  Please know that you are remembered in prayer by me and many friends.  Have a blessed Christmas.
