Lynn Jerome Vaughan Obituary

Written by on December 15, 2021 at 2:11 pm

Lynn Jerome Vaughan passed away peacefully at his home on historic Oak Ridge Plantation, Green Bay, Virginia on December 7, 2021, just days before his 80th birthday.  His battle with Parkinson’s Disease showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with grace and humility.

Lynn was born to the late John Wycliffe Vaughan and Alise Noland Vaughan on December 11, 1941 and was the oldest of eight children–the late John Wyckliffe Vaughan II, Victor Kellam Vaughan, Donald Glenn Vaughan, Judy Kay Vaughan Perkins, Sherry May Vaughan Howerton, Randal Scott Vaughan, and Jessie Sue Vaughan Tipton.

Lynn was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Smithson Vaughan.  They raised three children–Joseph Harvey McGee IV of Green Bay, Va., Pamela Vaughan Little of Denver, NC, and Shelly Vaughan Morrow of Southport, NC.  He was blessed with four grandchildren–Ronald Eugene Wooddell, Olivia Hampton Morrow, Lynnlee Marie Little and Ella Vaughan Morrow.

After serving in the Army Reserves, he worked for Dupont in Richmond, Va.  In 1974, he came back home to take over the family farm.  As a seasoned farmer, his favorite places were on the tractor, at the barns, or driving around in his Ford F-150.  After 30 years of tobacco farming, he turned his talents to raising cattle.  He loved working with “his cows” and took great pride in his herd.  He served on several local boards, was active at Victoria United Methodist Church, could often be seen at Bradshaw’s or Hillside’s “men’s breakfast tables,” and was known for always lending a helping hand.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the caregivers who helped Lynn through his last years.  A special thanks to Janet Cliborne for the exceptional care and love that she showed for more than 10 years.

Lynn was honored at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2021 with a service at Victoria United Methodist Church, followed by a private burial in the Knight and Vaughan Family cemetery at Oak Ridge Plantation.  Lynn’s late wife, Sandra’s, ashes were placed with him before burial.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Staples Funeral Home, Victoria, in charge of arrangements.
