LUNENBURG – The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors will have several interesting items on their December meeting agenda that includes the annual audit and a resolution that would make Lunenburg a Second Amendment Sanctuary.

A large number of citizens approached the county officials last month and asked the Board to pass a resolution declaring Lunenburg County a “Second Amendment Sanctuary County,” and also requested that the Board adopt a legislative agenda priority opposing any effort to infringe on Second Amendment rights.

Second Amendment Sanctuary resolutions ask that state and federal governments not expend resources to enforce certain gun control measures perceived as violating the Second Amendment.

This movement has taken place in numerous counties, with many more, including Lunenburg, expected to join the groups that have passed a resolution on this topic.

The resolutions being passed by counties in Virginia is a result of proposed gun laws expected from Virginia Governor Ralph Northam after the Democratic Party took over the majority of seats in the state government.

The county officials noted that they were not opposed to creating a resolution, but wanted county legal consultants to put together the document for Lunenburg. The resolution will likely be passed on Thursday night.
