It’s getting hot out, and that means more fun in the sun. What better way to spend a warm afternoon than barbequing your favorites on the grill? Whether you’re looking for a large quantity of meats to feed your guests or just a little bit to feed the family, this is your guide to the best butcher shops in Southside Virginia.

marions5In 1998, Marion’s Bi-Rite was born in Cumberland, Va. However, just three years ago, owner Ernest Marion made the move to Farmville, Va. where he will be celebrating his 17th anniversary in the butchering business soon.

Marion’s Bi-Rite offers an assortment of steaks, roasts, hamburger, chicken and so much more. According to Marion, all of the meat is cut fresh and packaged right there at his establishment. The only exception would be the turkey wings and necks, which are already pre-packaged.

In addition to being a one-stop shop for almost every type of meat under the sun, Marion’s offers a limited supply of small packaged sandwich meats, milk, sodas, bread, eggs, snack cakes, bacon, hotdogs, frozen pies and barbecue sauces. Marion also prides himself on his large selection of seasoning products.

Mr. Marion stated that the bulk of his supplies are shipped from Super Value, but he also utilizes Wholesome Foods, Toms Meat & Produce, Dan Valley Foods and Hackney. Fresh meats arrive at his business weekly. Marion’s can accommodate special orders, which he does on a regular basis for fire departments, rescue squads, etc…for stews, barbeques and chicken dinners.

Marion’s Bi-Rite accepts all major credit cards and EBT.
