Hickory Hill

Dear Editor,

It’s not often that an organization’s performance is so exemplary that you are compelled to share it with the community. 

This is the case with Hickory Hill in Burkeville. They have a memory unit there for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s. 
Never have we witnessed a place that has more devoted, compassionate and caring staff. Their personnel are well trained and have routines built that make sure every resident gets their care needs met in every category you can measure. 

We moved our mother there and this is first-hand knowledge. This is a family business run by Dee Mullens, herself a senior citizen.

While we have no first-hand knowledge of their assisted care facility, we see no reason why it’s not run as well if not better than the memory unit. 

The Phillips Family wishes to thank them from the bottom of our hearts in their caring for our mother.

Patrick Henry’s Red Hill

Needs Your Help 

Dear Editor,

My name is Caitlin Pieper and I am the Director of Education at Patrick Henry’s Red Hill in Brookneal. I was encouraged to reach out to you with information on a grant that we were selected to receive for the restoration of an original, signed letter by Patrick Henry, advocating for the fair treatment of Native Americans. We applied for The Endangered Artifacts program through the Virginia Association of Museums and were selected to compete for the top prize of $2,000 which will be used to conserve and restore this letter. There were thirty applications from museums across the state, so we are honored to have been selected in the top 10. In order to win the top prize, people must vote for their favorite artifact. I’ve included a link below with more information on the program, but we think it would be great if the public knew that we have this opportunity to have an invaluable piece of history restored.
