Large Tree Causes Traffic, Power Issues in Victoria

VICTORIA – Storms passed through the area on Sunday afternoon bringing brief heavy rains and winds, but there was no damage. Instead, a hot and calm Saturday morning was the time where a huge tree actually fell over in Victoria and caused some traffic and power issues.

Large Tree causes 2 Large Tree causes 1Victoria Fire and Rescue responders were dispatched to the intersection of Lee and 11th Street in Victoria before noon where they found a huge oak tree had broken in half and fallen across the roads and power lines in that portion of the town.

Victoria Fire and Rescue helped to secure the scene and ensure that none of the damaged power lines caused any safety issues. They were joined by Victoria Police Department officers in helping divert and direct traffic.

Victoria Public Works helped at the scene of the incident and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) assisted with tree removal. Utility companies took care of their equipment that was damaged and helped restore power later that afternoon.

There were no injuries as a result of the fallen tree.
