Lady Statesmen Bring Home Two Wins

CHARLOTTE C.H. – The Lady Statesmen softball team traveled to Chatham to play the Lady Cavaliers and came home with a 6-0 win. R-H scored twice in the first inning on a Danner Allen walk and an Abigail Dixon homerun. Sarah Mason reached on an error in the second and later scored on a sac fly by Alyssa Townsend putting R-H up 3-0 after two innings of play. The Lady Statesmen finished their scoring in the top of the fifth, scoring three more runs. Allen walked followed by a hit by Dixon and a homerun by Ashley Nelson. Dixon led the way at the plate going 3 for 4. Danner Allen went the distance on the mound by giving up just one hit and striking out 17.

R-H traveled to Buckingham to play an unbeaten Lady Knights team and was able to pull off a 9-1 win for the Lady Statesmen. In the top of the first, R-H scored four runs on four hits by Abigail Dixon, Ashley Nelson, Lacey Steppe and Summer Jones. R-H put up two more runs in the second on four hits by Dixon, Nelson, Steppe and Jones. Danner Allen and Abby Clowdis had back-to-back hits in the third and later scored to put R-H up 8-0 after three. Allen scored once again in the fifth to finish the scoring for the Statesmen. Buckingham was able to score once in the bottom half of the inning to make the final score 9-1. Allen, Dixon, Steppe and Jones all had two hits at the plate. Allen went the distance on the mound giving up one run on five hits while striking out 17.

The Lady Statesmen improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the James River District.
