Kidnapper Found Dead of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound; Woman Still Missing

AMELIA – Dana William, the Amelia man who was wanted for killing a man in Amelia County and abducting his wife shot himself on Wednesday after police authorities tracked him down to Fitchburg, Massachusetts.

P--Police search for suspectWilliam was taken to an area hospital and was in critical condition. Olene Brooks, who was taken by William is still missing and her husband Woodell Brooks was killed by William.

William was recently released from prison after a rape conviction and family members believe that he was getting revenge on the family for the time he spent in prison. Rewards are being offered for anyone with information leading to the location of Olene Brooks.

A release from late last week stated, “On January 21, 2016 at approximately 11:15 p.m. the Amelia Sheriff’s Office was notified of an abduction in the 17000 block of Poorhouse Road. After further investigation the body of a 67-year-old male was discovered in the same area.”

William abducted Olene H. Brooks, a 67-year-old white female who is 5’4” tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds. She has brown hair and green eyes.

He killed her husband, Woodell Brooks, 67, on Thursday, and also took other family and friends hostage near the couple’s home in the 17000 block of Poorhouse Road.

Reports and releases indicate that law enforcement officers found Woodell Brooks bound and dead in the home. The investigation continues as to the cause of death with reports from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner pending.
