KENBRIDGE – The towns and county officials in Lunenburg have been making a point of focus to keep the area clean and nice for residents and visitors. This has included the towns removing blighted properties and the county opening manned trash disposal sites.

Kenbridge officials recently reminded residents to “dispose of trash properly!” They stated, “We have some roads in town that are treated as dumping areas and we would like to remind others it is against the law to leave trash on the side of the road.”

The dumping code of Virginia states “It shall be unlawful for any person to dump or otherwise dispose of trash, garbage, refuse, litter, a companion animal as defined in § 3.2-6500 for the purpose of disposal, or other unsightly matter on public property, including a public highway, right-of-way, or property adjacent to such highway or right-of-way, or on private property without the written consent of the owner or his agent.”

There are fines for people who are caught littering and Kenbridge officials noted, “The Town appreciates everyone’s efforts of making the Town cleaner by refraining from throwing trash on the roadside, making sure trash in back of trucks is contained and we especially appreciate the residents that take their time in picking up the trash!”
