Kenbridge Man Wrecks After Fleeing From Police Officer

Chase Exceeded 100 MPH

KENBRIDGE – A high-speed police chase from Kenbridge toward Blackstone during the early morning hours of January 3, 2016 ended in an accident and the arrest of a Kenbridge man.

SONY DSCKenbridge Police Officer Aaron Stokes was on routine patrol when he observed with radar a car speeding in the Kenbridge town limits near the intersection of Broad Street and 5th Avenue.

Officer Stokes followed the vehicle to a parking area just off of Main Street where it briefly pulled over. As he approached the car, a passenger fled from the vehicle and the driver quickly pulled off and headed back to Main Street where they turned and headed along Blackstone Road toward the neighboring town.

The driver, later identified as Kenbridge resident Jaquon Boyd, traveled in excess of 120 mph according to information noted during the chase, before wrecking at the intersection with Starlight Road.

The car jumped a ditch and slammed head first into an embankment. Boyd was injured during the wreck and was transported by Kenbridge Emergency Squad responders to VCU Community Memorial Hospital.

Officer Stokes was joined at the scene by Kenbridge Police Chief Raymond Hite, Victoria Police Chief Keith Phillips, Deputies from Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police Troopers.

Following the accident, the 20-year-old Boyd was charged with felony eluding a police officer (section 46.2-817) and also underage possession of alcohol (section 4.1-305). He was also charged with speeding, and driving without a valid drivers license.

Chief Raymond Hite said that this situation luckily did not end up with any innocent drivers or people injured when Boyd fled and drove at a high rate of speed.
