LUNENBURG – There will be lots of changeover in the local town governments this year as a new mayor will step in for Kenbridge and Victoria, while positions on the town councils could also change.

The town elections for the Lunenburg locations are currently set for Tuesday, May 5 if that is not changed. The recent stay at home order from Virginia Governor Ralph Northam is in effect until June 10, which could lead to election date changes. In the meantime, voters are asked to get absentee ballots from the Lunenburg County Registrar’s Office. The last day to get an absentee ballot is April 28.

The Kenbridge elections will feature a new mayor as current Kenbridge Mayor Emory Hodges has decided not to seek re-election. A familiar face will step into that position as Vice Mayor Ken Blackburn is expected to move into the head position for the town.

Running for re-election on the town council are Raymond Hite, Jr. and Wanda Morrison, with Kenbridge resident Paul Perusse also on the ballot.

In Victoria, long time Mayor Carol Watson will step away from that position. Allen Smith has qualified to run for the position of mayor in Victoria. The Victoria ballot will include Sandra Jones, Chris Gill and Ronald Mattox, who are all seeking re-election. Jeramiah Fix is also running for a spot on the Victoria Town Council.

The Lunenburg County Registrar’s Office is at 160 Courthouse Square, Lunenburg, VA 23952. The phone number for the location is (434) 696-3071.
