Joyce Hamlet Green Obituary

Joyce Hamlet Green, 93 departed from this life on January 25, 2023, at home after a brief illness.  Joyce was born November 1,1929.  She was the daughter of the late Hughie Hall Hamlet and Beulah Orndorff Hamlet. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband William Eugene Green, Sr.; her brother, Ivan Boyd Hamlet, and her sister, Lois Hamlet.

During her long and eventful life, she served as a public school teacher for thirty-three years, was a lifelong member of Midway Baptist Church serving there as a Sunday School teacher, a member of Branchie Sublett Jordan Mission Circle, director of the WMU, and church historian. During her service as church historian, she compiled and published the history of Midway and kept it updated until recently. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gama, Red Hill Garden Club, and Charlotte County Retired Teachers Association. 

She is survived by a son, William Eugene Green, Jr. and wife, Donna; a grandson, William Eugene Green III and his wife, Marsha; and two great-grandchildren, William Eugene Green IV (Liam) and Scarlett Kennedy Green.

She will be deeply missed by her family, her church, and her many friends. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the ladies who cared for her during this last year, the caregivers from Blessings of Hope, and special caregivers Ann Marie Newcomb and Shilia James.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday January 28, 2023, at Midway Baptist Church, Phenix, Va. with interment in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the home of Billy and Donna Green, 4660 Midway Road Phenix, VA 23959, at all times. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Midway Baptist Church, 2595 Midway Road Phenix, VA 23959.
