As Virginia continues to dig out from last weekend’s record storm, VDOT and Virginia State Police are still working together to help get roads cleared. Central and Southside Virginia saw 10 to 12 inches of snow, a foot less than predicted.

Since the beginning of Winter Storm Jonas on Friday, and through Monday, the Virginia State Police responded to a total of 8,412 calls for service, including 1,562 traffic crashes and another 2,502 disabled vehicles across the Commonwealth.

“This was a 47 percent increase in traffic crashes and a 69 percent increase in disabled vehicle calls for the Virginia State Police to respond to when compared to the previous weekend which yielded a total of 6,990 calls for service,” said Corinne Geller, Public Relations Director with the Virginia State Police.

The Town of Farmville was also busy working 12-hour shifts to keep ahead of the snowfall. Farmville reported approximately 10 inches of snowfall.

Even with predicted high winds, Southside Electric, Dominion Virginia and Central Virginia Electric all reported only a few citizens without power.
