Freshening Up: Keysville Downtown Revitalization Project Underway

If you take a stroll through Keysville, VA, you’ll notice a variety of upgrades taking place to area businesses. This is all a part of an initiative to restore the Town of Keysville titled the Keysville Downtown Revitalization Project.

new post officeIn 2012, Governor Bob McDonnell granted more than $6.2 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to be allocated for town revitalizations. The Keysville Downtown Revitalization Project received a total of $568,750 in multi-year funding. A press release from the office of Governor McDonnell stated “multi-year projects are those that will receive a contract allocating a portion of the funds this year, and after achieving specific performance targets, will then be eligible for additional funding.”

The purpose of the Community Development Block grant is to provide funds to improve resources such as water systems, housing rehabilitation, and healthcare. Additionally, these grants can be used for renovations to old buildings, sidewalks, or other improvements to upgrade the look of Virginia towns.

A current list of properties that have participated in the Keysville Downtown Revitalization Project include: Genesis Products, Inc., Tax Accounting Experts, Hair Depot, Community Chiropractic, Keysville Express Exxon, Outlawed Printing/Pumpkin Heads, 323 Main Street Warehouse Building, Keysville Coin Laundry, Pete’s Auto Service, Keysville Hardware, Keysville Auto Center, Larry’s Auto Parts, Inc., Cruis-in Café, Keysville Station, The Sign Shop, Polar Express, Lazy Daisy Flower Shop, Keysville Post Office, and the Theater Building.
