If you’re lucky enough to be driving by the Farmer’s Market on North St. in downtown Farmville, you’ll notice something a little different.  The old warehouse wall, owned by Farmville Presbyterian Church, has been transformed into an artistic oasis!

muralThe “Warehouse Triptych Mural Project” is a collaboration between the Farmville Downtown Partnership and artist Monty Montgomery.  Montgomery is a 1998 graduate of Longwood University and a Virginia native.

According to his website biography, “While based in Charlottesville, Va. and working on various design projects in the music/surf/skate industries along the East Coast, Montgomery launched Cilli Original Designs and began spreading his word through clothing, paintings, poetry, stickers, and culture.  He then opened, operated, and curated C.O.D. Gallery & Studios on the Downtown Mall in ‘C-VILLE’ and joined forces with the Sound of Art in New York City for a period of time.”  After many great years in Virginia, he made the move to Boston, Ma. in 2006 to expand his vision. “Almost every single one of my pieces has a specific meaning to it, a vibe, a feeling or message that I want you to take in and walk away with,” Montgomery says. “I not only want to hit you with my vision of color and lines, but even more so with the message within each painting. My job is to create art that makes you feel.” Montgomery moved to San Diego in 2008 and currently lives there now where he works under the partnership name of “Kreshaun” with artist Jason Feather doing most of his murals.

At 70’ x 20’ Montgomery’s mural on the old warehouse might be the most noticeable when driving around town. Montgomery has also completed murals on the campus of Longwood, including a mural in Bedford Hall and his most recent work at Dorrill Dining Hall.

In addition to the new mural, Farmville Downtown has also added a number of colorful new banners with the words “Shop, Run, Dine, Rock” to brighten up the downtown area.  The wonderful new additions are a part of a new project entitled “Paint Farmville Downtown.”
