The Downtown Film Series invites you to join us Friday, August 9 for Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, this season’s third and final presentation of the Stars Under the Stars program. This musical fantasy is an adaptation of
Ronald Dahl’s 1964 novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. The character of Willy Wonka is played by Gene Wilder, who received critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination for his performance as the compelling Wonka.

Wonka is the reclusive owner of a fantastic candy factory, which is notoriously off-limits to the public. One day he announces to the world that he has hidden five Golden Tickets in his famous Wonka Bars, and whoever finds a ticket will be given a tour of the factory as well as a chance to win a lifetime supply of chocolate. As the craze to find the tickets winds down, young Charlie Bucket uses some money he finds to buy a Wonka Bar, which includes the final winning ticket. Soon, all five winners are taken into the factory for their tour, but Wonka has rules to be followed, and the children who do not follow these rules face serious consequences.

Come see how the adventure unfolds this Friday, August 9.  Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971, Rated G) is the final film of the “Sweet Sixteenth” season of the Stars Under The Stars series. Bring your blankets or bag chairs to the Downtown Crute Stage, which is located on the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in Farmville. The presentation will begin at dusk, and in the event of rain, the film will be shown the following evening at dusk.

Parking is available on Main Street and in the municipal parking lot behind the courthouse. Admission is free, and popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for purchase.  Please note there is a “No Pets” policy. For more
