Eureka’s first grade students have been learning about historical heroes who lived long ago, such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington Carver, and Eleanor Roosevelt. After studying the contributions of these leaders, some community heroes visited the students and shared valuable information on their areas of service to others. The first grade students were so excited to see local heroes and hear their stories. The community leaders talked with the students about their jobs, their service, and how important their education is in preparing for these specialized fields. The Hero Project will be a month long venture with students conducting research, working in teams to compile their findings, and using various forms of media to present the final projects on their personal heroes.
