ellingtonFARMVILLE – After 29 years of working with the Town of Farmville Police Department, Andy Ellington has been named the town’s newest police chief.

The announcement came from town council during their monthly meeting last week.

For the past several months Ellington has been serving as acting police chief following the resignation of Chief Davis.

“I am deeply honored and humbled by the trust and confidence this promotion conveys. Everyone in this wonderful community, including current members of the Farmville Police Department, can rest assured that I will continue to serve as Chief with the same exemplary professionalism as those who have served before me,” said Ellington.

One thing Ellington said he wanted to expand on as chief was that of involving youth more and strengthening the communities’ outreach programs.

“Such efforts have a considerable positive effect in helping our children develop positive citizenship skills and desirable attitudes regarding the dangers of using alcohol and illegal drugs in our community,” he added. “Growing up in Farmville, I frequented the police department and rode along with officers on a routine basis. This experience was invaluable. It was instrumental in bringing me to where I am today. These are the same kinds of experiences I want to continue to provide to youth in our community today.”
