Drakes Branch Woman Dies in Fatal Crash

CHARLOTTE CO. – At 2:22 p.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 31), Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 727 just south of Midway Rd.

A 2002 Ford Escape was traveling south on Route 727 when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The driver, Vivian E. McCargo, 66, of Drakes Branch, Va., died at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

A one-year-old male passenger was transported for treatment of minor injuries. He was in a child safety seat.

A medical condition is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
