Charlotte County Dixie Youth Majors Headed to World Series

SUTHERLAND -The Charlotte County Dixie Youth Major League All Stars traveled to Sutherland in Dinwiddie to play in the Virginia D1 State Tournament and they came away with the championship after beating Goochland twice and the Dinwiddie Nationals team.

Charlotte opened their tournament with a game against Goochland and came away with a 7-3 victory. Brody Bolton got the start on the mound and Sam Critzer picked up the save. Both teams struggled to get on the scoreboard early on, but Goochland took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. Charlotte answered in the fifth as Critzer, Cole Toombs, Kyle Vaughan, and Brennan Evans picked up hits and scored to put their team ahead 4-2.

Charlotte added three more in the next inning as Carper McCarty, Critzer, Alex Gee and Vaughan all had hits to make the final score 7-3.

Charlotte took on the host Dinwiddie Nationals in the second game. The Dinwiddie team scored first and took a 1-0 after their first at bat off of the starter, Gee. In the third inning, Gee reached base on a fielder’s choice and scored on an error to tie the game at 1-1.

Von Harvey scored the game winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning as he tripled and scored on a bad throw from Dinwiddie to put Charlotte ahead 2-1. Critzer closed the game on the mound to get the win.

Charlotte took on Goochland again in the championship game on Monday and got off to a fast start as Critzer, Vaughan, Bolton and Jax Lee all scored to put Charlotte up 4-0. Goochland picked up three runs off of starting pitcher Alex Gee, but Charlotte scored another run in the fourth and then exploded for five more in the fifth as Jon Harvey scored and Maddox Reeves had a double during the rally. With Critzer on the mound and Caleb Barton doing a great job behind the plate, Charlotte cruised to an 11-3 championship win.

The Charlotte Dixie Youth Majors will travel to Lumberton, N.C. August 6 to confront Dallas County, Alabama in the World Series.
