Relay for Life 2014 007Saturday just couldn’t have been brighter for the Charlotte County Relay for Life event. The beautiful spring day set the stage for a delightful afternoon of fun and games as friends and neighbors gathered on the lawn of the Keysville campus of SVCC to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Relay for Life 2014 015The folks in Charlotte County continue to astound event organizers with their passion and dedication to Relay for Life. If ever there was a time when walking in circles paid off, it would surely be at Relay for Life. This year’s event raised nearly $100,000 for the American Cancer Society and exceeded the goal set by the local committee.

Relay for Life 2014 042The Relay for Life is an event that gives everyone a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease. The favorite lap of the day is the survivor lap where the community comes together to cheer the cancer survivors. Whether a 50+ year survivor or a newly diagnosed one, each individual’s journey is unique. However, the outpouring of love from the bystanders is the same. No cancer patient is ever alone and this event is a visual reminder of the folks that surround survivors with their love and prayers.

As the day faded into night, a beautiful remembrance ceremony became the focal point when luminaires were lit in honor and in memory of cancer patients. A momentary hush fell across the gathered crowd as the candles came to life around the field. Families and friends pulled their loved ones closer as a calming breeze gently lifted thoughts and prayers to heaven. Celebrate, remember and finish the fight.
