Who will Shape our Children?

logo- government grumblingsFirst Lady Michelle Obama gave a beautiful touching speech at the democratic convention last week. She made some great points and delivered them well.

There was one line that should have outraged America but instead we are outraged at her “living in a house built by slaves” or at O’Reilly’s “but they were well fed” response. I thought the fact that she as a probable descendant of slaves was living in the White House showed just how far America has progressed. What a great thing.

Her line that, “this election will determine who will have the power to shape our children for the next four or eight years of their lives” is frightening.

First it is the parents who should determine how our children are “shaped.” It is the parents who should determine how our children are educated.

Of course the government can direct the course of education and many other things but the choice of words by Michelle Obama is just scary.

Certainly our political system and our leaders affect our children. The American Dream is no longer work hard, be honest, and make wise decisions.

Just ask around. The almost impossible winning big in the lottery has replaced ambition.

I shudder at the thought that our next president is going to “shape” our children. Will he or she “shape them in his/her own image”?

Will our children grow up to be ruthlessly ambitious and morally bankrupt? Will we be plagued with millions of Trumplets or Hillariettes? Personally I think one of each is too many.
