VICTORIA – Victoria officials recently gave approval to move forward with hosting National Day of the Cowboy again in 2016.

Rodney Newton spoke on behalf of the committee members for this day and asked town officials if they would like to continue to host the summer event. He noted that the town only had a minimal cost associated with the celebration last year and “nearly broke even.”

He went on to say that with events like the one that also took place in Amelia last year starting to set schedules, that the organizers here would need to begin those efforts as well to procure groups like the Tom Mix Rangers again.

Mr. Newton said that some people and groups that went to the other event last year had indicated that they would like to come back to Victoria in 2016.

He also noted that the committee had been approached by J.W. Gowan, who owns and operates a bull riding school, about having an event in the park during the Cowboy Day event. Mr. Newton said that the event would not cost the town any money.

Town officials said that they did not have a problem with going forward and starting the planning phase to host the event next year.
