After a successful 38-year career as a teacher, and an equally successful 36-year run as the Statesmen’s head softball coach, Coach Deborah Laine was honored Friday night in front of a packed house.  As a sign of respect and gratitude, a marker was tastefully placed at Laine field Friday morning to commemorate Coach Laine’s storied career.

At Coach Laine’s request, former Statesmen standout, Maggie Adams, was also honored at Friday night’s home opener.  Maggie’s softball career highlights include 153 total hits, 128 RBI’s, 23 home runs, and a career batting average of .571. Her game jersey was retired as a result of her incredible numbers while attending Randolph-Henry. Maggie is currently attending Longwood University and is a member of the Women’s Golf team.  (Photos by Ron Bagley)
