MECKLENBURG – A Sunday afternoon accident in Mecklenburg took the life of two Chase City residents. The Virginia State Police Public Relations Director Corinne N. Geller issued the following release regarding the tragic accident:
“Virginia State Police Trooper M.L. Gardner is investigating a single-vehicle crash in Mecklenburg County. The crash occurred Sunday (Feb. 21) at 5:22 p.m. on Hunters Lane, not far from Route 92.
A 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling west on Hunters Lane when it ran off the right side of the road, struck the ditch and overturned.
Both the driver and passenger were ejected, as neither one was wearing a seat belt.
Both Kenneth R. Shores, 24, of Chase City, Va., and Sandy L. Tucker, 24, of Chase City, Va., were transported to hospitals, where they later died. Shores was taken to Community Memorial Health Center in South Hill; Tucker (a female) was transported to VCU Medical Center in Richmond.
Because both were ejected, state police are still investigating to confirm which decedent was the driver. The Virginia State Police Appomattox Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.
The scene was cleared and reopened by 9:45 p.m.”
