Thomas Edgar Locke, 91

Mr. Thomas Edgar Locke, age 91, of Keysville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ayrie Mason Locke; two daughters, Tricia Tucker and husband Tim, Rhonda Locke Sandridge and Jim Benn; grandchildren, Blake Tucker and wife Krystal, Seth Tucker and fiancée Emiley Mitchell, Katie Biggers and husband Matt, George Thomas, Annie, and Pearl Sandridge; great-grandchildren Emma-Grace, Wyatt and Kinley  Tucker.

Tommy was born and raised in the heart of “Eureka.”   He served his country during WWII from 1942-1946, in the South Pacific as Army Staff Sergeant, 136th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group.  After returning from the war, he began a life-long career that spanned 65 years as a master carpenter and builder.  After retiring from White’s Building Supply, he continued his carpentry skills by restoring antique wagons, building handcrafted furniture and grandfather clocks.

Tommy was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was a dedicated member of Eureka Baptist Church, where he was so known for his beautiful voice in the church choir.

Tommy never met a stranger.  His quick wit, wonderful humor and kind spirit cultivated friendships from folks of all ages and backgrounds.  Everyone who ever met “Mr. Tommy” seemed to have a story to share.  What a wonderful legacy he leaves behind.

A military service will be held Thursday, September 5, 2013, at 2 p.m., graveside at Eureka Baptist Church in Keysville, Va.   In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to a local charity of choice in his memory. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville is in charge of arrangements.
