The Patriot Act and Others Ploys of Big Government

“Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.” Benjamin Franklin.

logo- government grumblingsAnytime our Government passes a bill with a noble sounding name the citizens should object. The Patriot Act sounds great but in reality takes our rights in the name of security.  The renewable fuel act, Affordable Health Care and Affirmative Action, just to name a few, are all laws that sound great but either don’t do what they claimed they would do or do much more that is not positive.  The Environmental Protection Agency sounds great. Who would object to protecting the environment?

Occupational Safety and Health Organization is another. Health and safety are important BUT not more important than freedom.

According to an old farmer, the most frightening words in the world are, “I’m from the Government and I am here to help you.”

Renewable Fuel would be great BUT ethanol is not. The ten percent mandated ethanol cuts fuel economy by 10 percent in older cars which means it does nothing to save gas. It costs more and requires more fuel to produce than it generates. It also damages engines, which gives the renewable fuel act a negative consequence.  The only good thing about the renewable fuel act is it increases the cost of corn, which benefits farmers. The rest of us just get to pay more for fuel and food.  BUT renewable fuel sounds so good.

Jay Leno, who is lobbying against ethanol, says the law should be repealed. He is gaining traction.

In his column in Autoweek, Leno expounds on the damage that ethanol – in the form of legally mandated E10 – can do to engines of older cars. He writes of damage to fuel lines, fuel-pressure regulators, diaphragms, carburetor jets, and the coating of fuel cells inside gas tanks.

Because ethanol can absorb water from ambient air, it can cause corrosion and inhibit combustion.

Jay Leno may be funny but this is no laughing matter.

Unless and until we the people insist our government makes responsible laws that have actual positive results, we are doomed to higher prices, bigger government, more regulations and less freedom.
