The Southside Virginia Community College men’s basketball team won its fifth straight game with a 110-65 romp over SW Prep at home on Sunday afternoon.
The win improved SVCC to 14-7 on the season.
The local team jumped out to a quick 10-0 start on a bucket by Devonte Saunders at the 16:18 mark.
A trey by Tevin Holloway and a bucket by Rashaun Alexander extended the lead to 18-8 at the 14:06 mark.
Back-to-back treys by Holloway and Alexander extended the SVCC lead to 34-15 at the 6:52 mark of the first half.
Treys by Edmund Maxwell and Holloway and a dunk by Marcus Hoosier gave SVCC a 59-33 halftime lead.
Two straight treys by Edmund Maxwell extended the SVCC lead to 77-39 at the 15:32 mark of the second half.
Donald Maxwell and Dontae Tucker combined to score 15 straight points midway through the second half to give SVCC a 90-53 lead on the way to the lopsided victory.
Edmund Maxwell led seven SVCC players in double figures with 21 points and 14 assists while Saunders scored 16 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.
Hoosier scored 15 points and added three blocks while Donald Maxwell scored 14 points.
Alexander finished with 13 points for SVCC while Holloway added 12 points and seven rebounds and Tucker finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The SVCC men will return home this weekend for a pair of games in VCCS tournament play, meeting Lord Fairfax CC at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and Thomas Nelson CC at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Brunswick HS in Lawrenceville.
The SVCC women will meet Thomas Nelson CC at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
