This Saturday, November 28th, is “Small Business Saturday” and is a day that was designated to ask people to support the small businesses throughout the country.

Shop Small is a movement encouraging people to shop at local businesses. Each year, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, millions of individuals, businesses, and communities have embraced this concept by supporting their local economy.

In Lunenburg, the local businesses provide an integral part of the community and each location can offer something special for shoppers on November 28 to celebrate Small Business Saturday.  Please make a point to shop locally this holiday season, and help out these local businesses on November 28.

This event was started in 2010 by American Express in an effort to promote products and services from small businesses during the holiday shopping frenzy. Local small businesses rely on the local citizens to help them prosper and to build the  economy.

When a purchase is made locally, it has a trickle down effect where the money spent stays close to home and is passed down through purchases from other locations, taxes and keeping businesses thriving, which in turn brings in other businesses.

Within both local towns and in the county, there are restaurants, retail businesses, sales and repair appliance locations, hardware stores, drug stores, florist and gift shops, and many other locations.

These places offer a variety of gifts and services that would be great Christmas items for families include new items, services such as haircuts and spa type applications, gift cards or subscriptions to The Southside Messenger (couldn’t resist) , a dinner date with a friend or family and much more.

Instead of getting the same old big store items, visit a local business that offers a services and goods that makes a good present and keep money local.
