State Police Investigating Death Of Hunter In Cumberland Co.

The Virginia State Police is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an 18-year-old hunter found deceased in a wooded area on a farm off Amos Road (Route 640) in Cumberland County.

On Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at approximately 8 p.m., the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call for a report of a missing person. The 18-year-old male had left his Cumberland residence to go hunting earlier in the day just off Amos Road and had not returned home before dark.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and the Virginia State Police conducted a search, which covered a two-mile area, using a helicopter and K-9 resources. At approximately 1:35 a.m., the body of the 18-year-old was discovered by the search team.

The body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond for autopsy where official cause of death will be determined. The investigation remains ongoing.

The deceased has been identified as Shaun T. Arms, 18, of Cumberland County.
