FARMVILLE – Incumbent Prince Edward County Sheriff Wesley W. Reed (D) was re-elected as voters went to the polls on Tuesday. Reed received 71 percent with 2,889 votes. This will be Reed’s second term as Sheriff.

Sheriff Reed did have opposition in this November’s election with Brandon Cummings (I) and Dale Vaughan (I) both seeking the position.

Cummings who received close to 22 percent of the 883 votes said Tuesday night that he was still proud and was thankful to everyone who supported him throughout the campaign. “Like I told my son tonight, although I may have lost I stood up for something that I believed in and that is the real lesson here. I encourage all of you out there to do the same, don’t be a sheep, stand up and fight on whatever it is that matters to you.”

Though Dale Vaughan only received seven percent of the vote with 265 votes cast he too said he was thankful to those who supported and believed in him. “However, the best man won,” he added.

“I don’t feel anger or bitterness towards any of the candidates. I do want to say congratulations to all who won and keep in mind that,” success isn’t measured by how much you make or how many people you have under your authority, but by how you treat those people and give back to those who put you there.”

In the only other opposed Prince Edward County election, residents in the Hampden District will now have a new board of supervisor member.

Charles McKay is the current supervisor for this district but did not seek reelection.

Both Odessa Pride and Richard Altice were vying for the seat. Pride was the winner in the Hampden District with 65 percent of the vote. Altice received 177 votes to Pride’s 336 votes.

The following individuals appeared on Tuesday’s ballot but were unopposed:

Machell Eppes (D), Clerk of Court: 3,432 votes; Beverly Booth (D) Commissioner of Revenue: 3,361 votes; Donna Nunnally (D), Treasurer: 3,421; Howard Simpson (D), Board of Supervisors, District One: 359 votes; Robert Jones (D), Board of Supervisors District Two: 467 votes and Pattie Cooper-Jones (D) District Eight: 222 votes.
