CHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE – From farm to table and fresh is best is what you will hear from Jean Moore when she talks about her newly opened produce stand.

For the past three years, Jean and her husband Robbie, along with their children Clay and Montana, have worked to turn what was once a small garden into seven acres of farm-fresh produce.

With the encouragement of family and friends, the Moore’s decided that this season was the year to open an official produce stand. Calling themselves New Beginning Farm, the stand is located on their property at 780 Butterwood Road in Charlotte Court House. “A lot of people were asking to see the farm plus a lot of people also like to pick out their own produce,” said Jean, “so we decided it was time to put up a stand.”

Offering people the opportunity to purchase fresh produce is not something new to the Moore’s. Ever since their produce became abundant a few years ago, Jean has been taking orders and even delivering those orders to citizens in Charlotte Court House, Appomattox, Farmville and Lunenburg.

New Beginning Farm is still taking orders and making deliveries in addition to their produce stand that is open each Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

New Beginning Farm is truly a family run farm. Both of Jean and Robbie’s children help on the farm. According to Jean, they help plant, and harvest what they grow. “We make a game out of it…who can pick the most and also try to make this a learning experience for them. Plus it gets the kids out of the house and away from the T.V.”

At the age of nine Clay already says he wants to be a farmer. “I’m looking at more of the cattle and grain business,” he said.

Clay and his sister not only help with the produce on the farm, they have chickens that they raise and take care of. According to Jean what started as a project for the kids with ten chickens has now turned into 200 chickens laying 10 dozen eggs a day which are also for sale at the farm.

Currently, New Beginning Farm is offering asparagus, green peas, green beans, potatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes and both white and brown eggs.
