The Pregnancy Support Center of Southside Virginia held the ribbon cutting and Open House for its new facility on Friday, June 5. The new location is 201 North Main Street, Farmville, at the parking lot entrance of the “corner building” on 3rd and Main. The Center offers a wide array of services such as confidential pregnancy testing, 24 hour talk hotline, a baby boutique, and a variety of classes that are geared to assist new mothers and fathers in developing parenting and life skills and child development, all in an understanding and compassionate atmosphere.  One particularly unique facet of a relationship with the Center is the ability to earn “baby bucks.” Baby bucks are given in exchange for participation in any of the numerous classes that the Center offers. The baby bucks can then be “spent” in the baby boutique for clothing, diapers, formula or other things.

The Pregnancy Support Center of Southside Virginia has been in operation since 1984. The nonprofit, faith based organization has helped over 7,600 clients since opening its doors. Once located in the old Farmville library, it was dislocated this past year when a water pipe froze and burst. Farmville Methodist Church offered the organization temporary space until they could find a suitable place to fully reopen. Melanie Green, the executive director of the Center said Friday, “We have been waiting patiently for this day. We are so blessed!”
