The Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors meeting dealt with a number of different issues this month. Local resident Sam Campbell began the public participation portion of the meeting with a request of the Board for a State of the County report. Supervisor Timmons offered to team with County Administrator Wade Bartlett to put a report together. Dustin Meadows also asked the Board if they would consider doing a Town Hall meeting. Chairman Howard Simpson replied that he would look into the possibility of it.

The Prospect Depot Project once again was a topic of conversation at the Tuesday night meeting. The Depot may become a reality after all. Some major changes will be made to to the original focus of the reconstruction, however. The changes are due to the fact that the original bids to rebuild the old train depot that was ravaged by fire all returned drastically over budget. The new plan will allow construction to take place, but not as an historic renovation. It will allow for the use of contemporary materials and methods. The entire process is still in the preliminary stages and depends on a number of factors to move forward.

Members of the Board continue to voice their concern with the county’s school system ahead of school board citizen appointments. Concerns ranged from the low standing that Prince Edward School system holds compared to the rest of the State to the potential loss of appeal to the area that a poorly performing school system creates for people contemplating a move into the county.
