_DSC8632Meherrin Volunteer Fire Fighters responded to a car fire at Rick’s Mini Mart on Highway 15 on Monday, December 2, 2013. According to the driver, trash in the bed of the pickup ignited as he drove down Highway 15. He pulled over and his wife and child ran to safety. The blaze was contained to the bed, and a passing Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to extinguish the fire with a hand held extinguisher before it spread to the cab. Unfortunately, the single fire extinguisher was not enough to stop the fire from spreading to the cab. Firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading to the adjacent gas station, but the truck was already fully involved on their arrival. The truck was a total loss.
