LUNENBURG – Lunenburg County Administration announced late last week the newest member of the Administration team.  Following two months of advertising and posting on social media, County Administrator Tracy Gee assembled an interview team of Board of Supervisor District #7 representative Bobby Zava, Planning Commission Chair Buck Tharpe, and part-time Planner Glenn Millican.  Interviews were conducted the end of March and a top finalist was selected.

Effective April 19, Ms. Taylor Newton of Victoria, Va. starts her career with Lunenburg County as full-time Director of Planning and Economic Development.  Ms. Newton is a native of Lunenburg and currently resides in Victoria.  She demonstrated her knowledge of the County’s processes, needs and strengths during the interview process and has a well-organized, research-based approach to planning.  Ms. Newton possesses a Bachelor’s Degree from Longwood University, and dual Master’s Degrees from Liberty University, one in Human Services and the most recent in Business/Public Administration.  Ms. Newton’s previous employment also includes experience with public speaking, grant management, and preparation for board meetings.  Ms. Newton will review all applications for zoning and conditional use permits, interpret the Joint Comprehensive Plan and its use in planning, and serve as the Clerk to the Planning Commission.  She will also serve as a liaison to the County’s existing businesses, support the Towns of Kenbridge and Victoria in development and/or grant opportunities, and with potential business prospects.  She has a strong work ethic and understands public service.  We all serve the citizens of Lunenburg County and we all want to see both of our towns and the county thrive.

Ms. Newton will replace Mr. Glenn Millican, who has served in this role in a part-time assignment since May 2018, when the County advertised for a full-time position, but Mr. Millican was the best fit for the job.  Mr. Millican is previously retired and is interested in a less time-consuming post-retirement occupation.  Mr. Millican agrees that a full-time team member would best serve Lunenburg and the County Administration Office as there is much work to do.  We wish Mr. Millican a long, fulfilling retirement with his wife, Ann, and their family.
