One of the popular programs at the local elementary schools is the Accelerated Reader (AR) program that rewards kids for reading activities and a certain number of books (points) with hats and shirts.

Kenbridge Elementary School teachers Mr. Tom Hoefer and Mr. Mark Roncinske are both officers with the Marine Corps League Lake and Country Detachment #1085. Mr. Roncinske stated, “We heard the plea for help and we discussed it at our officers meeting on recently.”  He would also go on to point out that his friend and colleague Tom Hoefer had a great deal to do with getting this help for KES.

Commandant David Keim put forward a motion before the League members to help support this program and the group agreed to help out the school. Two hundred dollars was awarded to the AR Program at KES to help provide shirts and hats to the students as a result of the generosity shown by this group.

The LCD #1085 is very active with giving toys to disadvantaged youth, provides scholarships to qualified applicants, march in local parades, visit schools to teach Marine Corps military history, host 5k’s, fishing raffles, flag burning ceremonies, among many other generous offerings.

Mr. Roncinske stated, “Thank a teacher if you can read. Thank a Marine because you can read in a free country.  Our enemies try to keep their population ignorant and especially despise educating girls and women.”
