VICTORIA – The Lunenburg Minor League All-Star team came up just one game shy of claiming the district title on their home field as they fell in the final day to the Dinwiddie Nationals by a 17-7 final.

The game was tight early on with both teams scoring a run in the first inning. Trey Inman doubled in the first and scored on a Seth Bishop single to give Lunenburg the early lead. Jordan Jackson took the mound for Lunenburg and kept Dinwiddie off balance in the first inning while surrendering just one run to the high powered opponent.

The second inning saw Jackson double while Maki Reese and Jacob Sheets both reached base to load them up. DN got a couple of key outs to keep the score at 1-1 and used that momentum in the next at bat. They would send 14 batters to the plate and score 9 runs to take a commanding 10-1 lead.

Lunenburg answered back in the third inning as Conner Mattox, Inman, and Tucker all singled. Seth Bishop would double in the inning as well to cut the Dinwiddie lead to 10-4. Lunenburg kept plugging away on offense with three more runs in the fourth inning. Jackson, Latrell Johnson, Mattox and Ryan Allard all had hits and Lunenburg scored three more runs, but it would not be enough.

Lunenburg sent multiple pitchers to the mound to try to slow down the DN offense, but they continued the torrid offensive pace and took a 17-7 victory.

The Lunenburg team played well and came away with the Runner-up trophy.
