From their first intro art class, to multiple assessments and hours of work, to that moment of pride as they look at their work displayed in an art museum, the senior Longwood University art students have come a long way. With a rapidly approaching graduation date, the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts is showcasing more than twenty students’ works in the 2014 Longwood University Department of Theatre, Art, & Graphic Design and Animation Senior Exhibition. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, April 12th, from 5 – 7 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. The show will be open through May 7th.

Collectively, these students have studied Art Education, Art History, Book Arts/Printmaking, Crafts, Graphic Design, Painting and Drawing, and Photography. The mediums, subjects, and styles of the various works are across the board, offering visitors and participants a chance to have many different experiences in one exhibition. Participating artists include: Mariah Asbell, Kevin A. Bradtke, Victoria Brooke Burns, Sarah Ann Buchter, Annelle Cleveland, Kelsie Clyburn, James Early, Cabell Edmunds, Shannon Field, Morgan Glasco, Katie Harris, Alyssa Hayes, Kelsey Holt, Mike Kropf, Jake May, Melissa Michel, Sara Nelson, Cara O’Neal, Stephanie K. Peterson, Anna Pierce, Emily Poulin, Emily Teel Reynolds, Tiffany Riggins, Mary Anna Rose, Benjamin Shukrallah, Kaitlynn Slaughter, Katherine Taggart, and Shelby Wynn.

Alex Grabiec (LU Class of 2007), the exhibitions manager at the LCVA, coordinates the show with the Art Department. “This exhibition offers students a great opportunity to exhibit work to a wide audience of LCVA visitors and constituents,” said Grabiec.

In addition, the 2014 Longwood University Art Department Theatre, Art, & Graphic Design and Animation Post Baccalaureate Exhibition will feature artists Kirk Jackson and Jessica Kanaley.

The LCVA would like to thank Longwood Dining Services for their generous contribution to make this opening reception possible.

The LCVA is located at 129 North Main Street in Farmville. Admission is free and open to the public; gallery hours are Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. For further information on this or other programs and events, call LCVA at 434-395-2206 or visit www.longwood.edu/LCVA or www.facebook.com/theLCVA.
