Keysville Community Athletics is pleased to announce that starting February 15, they will be offering sign-ups for the Charlotte County Little League Team at the Keysville Ball Field.

According to a press release, “This venture is being offered not just to Charlotte County residents but individuals that reside out of the County. The territory for this district includes Prince Edward, Nottoway, Mecklenburg and Lunenburg.” The Little League offers programs that can carry players up to high school, as opposed to Dixie Youth which only includes children up to age 12. According to Jay George, The Charlotte County Little League is hoping to at least carry a league up to ages 14/15, depending on the amount of participation.

The Little League is well recognized in the sports world, as ESPN hosts the Little League World Series every year on their network. Additionally, the program requires that all coaches and umpires pass a criminal background check. George stated that their reasoning behind the change was simple in the fact that the Little League offered a more diplomatic approach and allowed for more children who lived in the area to play based on their residence eligibility requirements. Based on the provisions set in place by Dixie Youth, some children were not able to play ball at the closest location because they lived outside of the county limits. That is when Keysville Community Athletics began looking into other options and Little League proved to be the most beneficial based on the various age groups they offered and the incentives for name recognition. This will also serve as a way to help organizations that have a problem with enrollment.

“By making the move from Dixie Youth to Little League, it is anticipated that areas that have community ball fields such as Meherrin and Pamplin could form their own teams and participate. We encourage all other programs to consider the Little League Organization due to their structure and the programs that they offer,” stated the press release. Sign-up will be held at the Keysville Ball Field on the following dates:

  • February 15, 2014 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
  • February 22, 2014 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
