Farnsworth was the initial target of the investigation, if he would plead guilty and accept incarceration in her place, Clement would agree to suspend Davis’ sentence. “Two of the three charges of distribution were not prosecuted against Kamekia Davis in exchange for her guilty plea. John Howard Batts, Jr., 21, of Victoria, Va., was convicted in the Lunenburg Circuit Court on his third offense of Assault and Battery of a Family Member. Although this charge is usually a misdemeanor, because it was his third offense, it was elevated to a Class 6 Felony. Batts was previously convicted in February of 2011 involving a woman as the victim and in July of 2011 involving the mother of his child, the same victim in his current charge. However, according to Commonwealth Attorney Robert Clement, the victim initially told police that Batts had hit her, but after his arrest she went to the Sheriff’s Office and said she had lied. They had simply bumped heads, which caused her swollen lip and slight bleeding from her nose. A relative of Batts’ who was present at the scene gave a statement saying that Batts pushed her into the victim when she attempted to step in between the argument, which caused the back of her head to hit the victim in the face. Batts was sentenced to five years in prison with all suspended except for 19 days awaiting his preliminary hearing.
