Hayes, who works at Randolph-Henry High School was nominated by JoAnn Lacks of Charlotte Court House. During her address, Lacks noted that Hayes is very active in the school system, from attending sporting events, providing snacks and giving out words of encouragement to players to sending out motivational messages to faculty and staff members each morning. “She (Hayes) is very caring of all people both young and old. She is very deserving of this award,” said Lacks.

With tears in her eyes and speechless at times, Hayes told the crowd, “This is a special honor that I don’t deserve. I love the kids. I tell them all I love them. I yell at them in the hallways and yell for them at the ball games,” she said. “This (award) will always be cherished.”
